What’s pizza with 2 extra z’s? PIZZAZZ.
For my Experimental Typography class, we had a prompt to make type out of a pizza box. I decided to make a project I had my heart set on creating the whole semester— an exit sign that said “excite” instead. Using some pizza boxes I got from my friends at Papa John’s pizza, I transformed the boxes into a DIY sign.
This project was accepted into the Ewing Gallery’s 70th Student Art Show at the University of Tennessee.
I measured an exit sign in my apartment hallway, and I drew my version up. I modified a few typefaces to try and emulate the “exit” sign typeface as much as I could. I lasercut and spray painted the boxes, and assembled the box with hot glue. Here’s a look behind the scenes:
